This book tells in two different stories how God honors honesty. In the first story, The Truth Insures the future for Charles and Harry, two brothers tell the truth when they accidentally destroy the neighbor's prize plant. Even though the neighbor rudely rejects their apologies at the time, the elderly man remembers their honesty years later. He extends a helping hand to the brothers when they young. Thus, the childhood honesty of the brothers leads to many blessings for Charles, Harry, and their neighbor Mr. Arnold. When Mary and her brother Charles are disobedient, Mary is injured. The two children lie to hide their disobedience from their parents. The story Little Mary's First and Last Falsehood shows how listening to the temper's deceitful voice once leads on to other lies. God makes little Mary's conscience suffer in misery until she repented her sin. (1 John 1:8-9)
