When Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun, full of gold statues, jewelry, and the body of the pharaoh himself, the world got a rare glimpse of life in the distant past. Though we know very little about Tutankhamun's life, the preservation of his tomb has strangely brought him closer to us than any other person from the ancient world. At the same time, the splendor of the objects found in his tomb has made Egypt seem more exotic than ever.
