This book is a comprehensive introdution to the New Testament that combines the historical-critical method with a perspective of faith. Moving book by book through the New Testament and illustrated with photographs, charts and maps, this study summarizes the scietific data regarding authorship, readership and literary structure. It then concentrates on the religious faith of each biblical author. It develops a specific portrait of Jesus, his saving death and his return proper to each book. The author then provides his own reflections that deal with the challenge of reconciling these portrayals with traditional Christian faith. Vincent P. Branick, who holds a doctor of philsosphy degree from the University of Freiburg and a doctorate in sacred scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, is professor of religious studies at the University of Dayton.
