In this book, based on his 2001 Lyman Beecher lectures at Yale Divinity School, Bartlett looks at the meaning of good news in the Gospels and in Paul's letter to the Galatians. What the good news is and how we respond to it is different in each of these writing, Bartlett argues. And while there are important continuities in the way good news is understood, by exploring the differences the preacher can better discern what strain of good news is most important for a particular congregation to hear on a particular Sunday. This book includes five simple sermons.
