I am a wretched daughter, a nonexistent girlfriend, and a sister who can't remember one tiny thing about her brother. Sophie's little brother died of leukemia two years ago, and her memories of him are beginning to slip away. Erhart will always be not quite eight, but Sophie will keep getting older-and her life will keep changing. Erhart will never know that their father had an affair, or that their parents have split up. Or that boys who used to be Sophie's friends are starting to ask her out. She doesn't know how she'll cope-until she meets Francis. With a dead mother, a teardrop tattooed on his face, and a curiosity that is almost nosy, he has a lot to teach Sophie about losing someone and saving memories. They start out as friends, but soon Sophie realizes that Francis wants to be her boyfriend, too. Can Sophie give herself permission to grow up?
