This reading response journal provides a series of two-page units that help students focus on literature and respond to it effectively. Left-hand pages provide lines for the book's title, pre-reading questions or predictions, post-reading thoughts, and a ranking of the book. Right-hand pages provide lines for the book's author, the date of the response, an illustration, caption, prompt, and open-ended written response. The last three pages of Writing about Reading provide a series of prompts about character, setting, and plot, plus blank lines for new prompts appropriate for particular books or students. Additional support comes from the word banks on the inside front and back covers, which enable students to compile personalized spelling/vocabulary lists to which they can refer quickly and easily. The journal's unique format stimulates thinking and writing about reading, leading to improved comprehension and better writing. Grades 3-4.
